Characteristics
In the Khoikhoi village
there is a headman, who is the authority of that village. This position is hereditary, which means it is passed down from
father to son (museum.co). Villages would be united together to form a tribe, which consisted of a few hundred to several
thousand.
The Khoikhoi lived
in houses called kraals that had either a leader or a minor chief (africanhistroy.com). When several individuals lived in
a kraal, they formed a clan. Each or these clans had its own territory, or grazing area for their herds.
